The Adaption plugin for Cursor connects the [Adaption MCP server](/tools/mcp/index.md) and adds workflow skills for datasets, synthetic data generation, and AutoScientist.

## Install the plugin

1. Open **Customize** in the Cursor sidebar.
2. Search for **Adaption**.
3. Select **Install**.
4. Open **Configure** and set `ADAPTION_API_KEY` to your [Adaption API key](/introduction/create-api-keys/index.md).

## Verify the connection

Open **Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP** and confirm that the `adaption` server is connected. Then ask the agent:

> List my Adaption datasets.

The agent should use `list_datasets` from the Adaption MCP server.

If the server exposes no tools and reports `403 Only API keys are permitted on this endpoint`, check that `ADAPTION_API_KEY` contains an Adaption API key rather than a session or OAuth token.

## What the plugin adds

The plugin configures the hosted MCP connection and includes three skills:

- `adaption-dataset` — Guides dataset import, adaptation, augmentation, translation, localization, combination, and export workflows.
- `adaption-invent` — Guides synthetic dataset generation from natural-language requirements.
- `adaption-training` — Guides AutoScientist model selection, hyperparameter recommendations, training, and monitoring.
